Abstract | Research training of counsellors and counsellor educators has been widely debated. In this study, the authors explore the perceptions of 106 counsellor educators regarding their doctoral research coursework. They also examine the relationship between participants' semester hours in research methods and later research publications. Participants indicated having little exposure to qualitative research methods in their doctoral training and indicated a need for more qualitative coursework in doctoral counselling programs. Participants also expressed a desire for more training in research methods and for increased mentorship in research. Few practical associations were found between semester hours in research methods and later counselling research publication. The authors discuss implications of the results and make recommendations for future research. (Contains 2 tables.) (Author). |
